Mineral crystals use a similar material to windowpane glass and were developed for watches as a harder alternative to acrylic. Mineral crystals are still susceptible to scratches but less so than acrylic, however it is not possible to buff out these scratches as it is with acrylic. Mineral glass is not as shatter resistant as acrylic but does offer greater transparency and clarity. Due to their improved scratch resistance versus acrylic, and improved shatter resistance versus sapphire, mineral is often considered to be the best of both worlds as a crystal material.

Additionally, during those 12 days of transit time, the purchase price of the watch I purchased went down (was more heavily discounted) yet when I sent an e-mail request to Timex through the website, advising that I thought this unacceptable and requested that I be credited the difference (roughly $15.00), I did not even receive the courtesy of a reply one way or another. While admittedly, the watch I purchased was inexpensive (particularly as compares to many of the other watches I own), I do not consider that an excuse for poor service. The watch itself is acceptable, other than the fact that the stopwatch second hand of the chronograph, stops not at 12, but at three seconds past 12."
