Mineral crystals use a similar material to windowpane glass and were developed for watches as a harder alternative to acrylic. Mineral crystals are still susceptible to scratches but less so than acrylic, however it is not possible to buff out these scratches as it is with acrylic. Mineral glass is not as shatter resistant as acrylic but does offer greater transparency and clarity. Due to their improved scratch resistance versus acrylic, and improved shatter resistance versus sapphire, mineral is often considered to be the best of both worlds as a crystal material.

"I got the Metropolitan on sale 30% off so I paid 230 dollars for this watch and at that price it seems like a decent value. The watch face is beautiful and reflects light clearly with subtly aligning with the metal rectangular hour marks that looks beautiful when the light aligns. The strap is decent and comfortable. my only issue with the watch is for the base 330 price point the movement is under whelming but other than that it's my favorite watch I've picked up so far."
